Please join us Thursday April, 5 from 7-9 p.m. as we celebrate the opening of Giancarlo Piccin's exhibit, Toronto Series. Everyone is welcome. The exhibit will be on display from April 1-29, 2018.
The challenge for any contemporary artist is to see the world through new eyes. It is important to me that an artist's work reflects his time. Whether it is through the use of contemporary themes, techniques and/or mediums. I try to gain a good understanding of the past and present art scene to try to meet this challenge in an effort to represent my generation.
With this series, I investigate the relationship between people and their surroundings. My work usually begins with an abstract painting. I then explore the possibilities of people and architecture as subject matter. By using colour and paint applications on successive layers, I encourage the viewer to connect the missing links to form a complete image.
Giancarlo Piccin was born in Toronto, Canada to Italian immigrant parents and his talent for drawing and painting was evident at an early age. He graduated from the esteemed Ontario College of Art and Design where he studied Fine Art and was considered to be one of the most talented students in his class. Over the years, Giancarlo has exhibited in both group and solo shows and his work is collected internationally. He specializes in oil, watercolour, drawing, mixed media and digital artwork. Giancarlo constantly strives to push himself in new directions, always learning from both his contemporaries and receiving inspiration from his major influences - Salvador Dali, Leonardo Da Vinci and Robert Rauschenberg. Giancarlo lives with his wife and son in Heart Lake, Ontario.
