Artist Statement

Strongly influenced by the great French impressionists as well as our very own Group of Seven, I find immense pleasure in interpreting our glorious seasons onto my canvas.

My style is contemporary Impressionism, my palette is bold colour. I paint what I see when I step outside into my world, whatever stirs my soul. My subjects include seasonal landscapes and florals as well as figurative work focusing on capturing the beauty and versatility of women of ethnic diversities. I find their expressive forms of costumes, music and dance greatly inspire me to portray them on my canvas.

Termed a "seasonal painter" I focus on the world around me in all its seasons. I paint our beautiful florals and floral inspired landscapes from early spring until the final days of Indian summer. A floral designer and gardener at heart, I love capturing the beauty of our resplendent blooms in their myriad of colours.

When the cool autumn breezes start to blow and leaves start changing colour I then transition into painting our glorious fall landscapes. I travel around different parts of Ontario and enjoy capturing reference photos for my work as I absorb the beauty of autumn hues beside lakes and rivers. Did you know Canada has the second largest volume of freshwater lakes and rivers in the world? I live in Burlington, nestled in the Niagara Escarpment which boasts one of the highest number of waterfalls found in Ontario. I love painting the beautiful fall colours reflected in these cascading pools of water.

In November and December I start painting winter landscapes ….sometimes with a sprinkling of holiday themed birds and snow studded foliage. In my characteristic style of a bold colour palette I enjoy painting winter landscapes in the warm glow of beautiful winter sunsets.

I strive to create a common thread of colour, form and light in my paintings. My clients say they are drawn to the colour and movement in my work. My work is based on joyous themes filled with vivid colour and light. I enjoy representing on canvas the amazing country I live in - Canada, my home.
