Mixed Media Creative Lab: Free Youth Workshop

Explore the possibilities of mixed media in this hands-on two-day workshop, experimenting with paint, pencil crayon, pastel, and alternative photographic processes such as cyanotype and anthotype. Create your own collection of richly layered papers and textures on Day 1, then cut, combine, and compose them into a unique finished artwork on Day 2.

Overview

Mixed Media is such a large category that encapsulates a variety of ways of working, this 2 day workshop will allow students to try their hand at an assortment of media (paint, pencil crayon, pastel, alternative photographic processes)! With the focus of building and creating surfaces that will then be turned into a final piece. Day 1 will be spent working large, students will generate their paper ephemera building textures and complexity. While working with familiar materials, instructors will also introduce processes that students might be less familiar with (cyanotype, anthotype etc) 

Day 2 will be spent bringing together all of the surfaces to create their final piece. Utilizing a cut and paste method students will compose and assemble their final work, having time to add any fine details.
