First Impressions by Julia Kane
The artwork was the selected cover for the Stay NOTL and Tourism NOTL 2025-2026 map. The piece was chosen from entries to an annual map cover design competition open to Niagara artists, hosted by the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre.
The piece captures a springtime view upon entering Niagara-on-the-Lake's 'old town' from the south, where the iconic Cenotaph along with the vibrant greenery and flowers welcome visitors to the main street. Through this work, the artist hopes to evoke joy and a fresh appreciation for the town's beauty.
Warm Reception by Darren Cranford
Set within the grand lobby of Niagara-on-the -Lake's Prince of Wales Hotel, Warm Reception captures the timeless elegance of carved wood, soft chandeliers, and gilded frames. Painted in a loose, almost impressionistic style, the details blur just enough to evoke memory rather than documentation, allowing warmth and atmosphere to take precedence over precision. The figures—staff and guests alike—embody the sense of hospitality that inspired the title, their presence a quiet testament to genuine kindness. The painting invites viewers to linger, to step into a space where history, beauty, and human connection converge.
