Robert finds inspiration in colour, texture, and overlooked subjects like old boats and buoys, influenced by their East Coast upbringing. He paints not to make statements but simply to share what catches their eye.
The public is invited to the opening reception on Sunday, Juy 6th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM to meet the artist and experience her work firsthand. Remarks will be delivered at 2:30 pm.
Artist's Statement
Colour, texture and age seem to be my catalyst for most of my paintings. Growing up in the east coast influences my work a great deal as well. I paint with acrylic paints which allows me to use vibrant colours, and create an almost photographic look to my work. I find that every place you look colour is disappearing. Too much is becoming bland. I am very much influenced by painting things that most people walk by and don't even notice like as pile of old fishing buoys, an old boat or an old car. They have so much colour and texture to them and could probably tell a few interesting stories if they could talk.
I don't paint to make any political statement, or to try to impress the rest of the art world. I just paint what catches my eye and hopefully other people will enjoy them as well. I have been painting for over forty years and have found it to be a great stabilizer in my life. As a matter of fact, since I started painting, I have painted three small birds in everyone I have done. I have even forget where they are sometimes, but its fun to try and find them.
I live in Brantford, Ontario as well as having a summer home in St Margaret's Bay, Nova Scotia. I work part time for a Framing and photography company, but I am now putting most of my time to my art and my family. I have shown in several group shows and Juried exhibitions as well as several solo shows.
