Artist's Statement
Tanya Markvart resides in the north Saugeen (Bruce) Peninsula area of Ontario. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in film production from Concordia University and a Master of Environmental Studies and Doctorate in Urban Planning from the University of Waterloo. She is an emerging, self-taught artist in the early stages of showing her work.

Markvart's work explores the interconnected spiritual, psychological and physical dimensions of how people interpret and experience the world. From this standpoint, her featured series depicts the ancient geologic landscape of the north Bruce Peninsula in Ontario, Canada. The paintings explore the link between internal and external environments to illuminate how one shapes our understanding of the other. Markvart paints primarily with acrylic ink on birch wood panels, allowing the natural grain to emerge through the medium in surprising ways.

Her series, The Spring Shoreline, has appeared in galleries within Southern Ontario, including Niagara's Jordan Art Gallery, Wiarton's Deep Water Gallery, and Toronto's Propeller Gallery. Virtually, Tanya's work has been shown by the (Czechoslovakian) Women United Art Movement and The Society of Canadian Artists International Online Juried Exhibit, 2025.
