Painting portraits give me satisfaction of knowing that I have tried to not only capture a likeness of the model , but also the knowledge that I have somehow recorded a characteristic and quality of that person that upon closer inspection one can be more acquainted with who they are. Recording an exterior likeness of model is easy but capturing the essence of the person is more difficult and challenging.
