I would describe my oil painting style as representational. I tend to focus on landscapes, however, I also enjoy painting animals, people and still life subjects. I am not trying to express my ideas, instead I paint to offer the viewer an opportunity to enjoy the scene or subject as I did and take their own experience and pleasure from it. I think of my paintings as an inventory of places, photographs, objects and life that I have enjoyed and/or wish to share. Whatever a painting says to the viewer - it is the right message, each person takes something a little different from the same painting and that is what I want.

At the age of 11, my first notable art lessons were at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts where I met Arthur Lismer (Group of Seven) who ran the Montreal Children's Centre there. He left me with a lifelong, vivid memory of his presence and sketching ability and the desire to learn more to grow in my artistic ability.

I am not trying to express my ideas about a particular scene or subject, instead, I paint to offer the viewer an opportunity to enjoy and experience the subject matter in their own way. I work in oil paints with brush and painting knives and dabble in coloured pencil and oil pastels.
