Helen McCusker graduated from the Illustration Program at Sheridan College and worked as a freelance Graphic Designer and Illustrator in Eaglewood Studios for many years. She has had a life-long fascination for Drawing and Painting Portraits and the human form. Figure Drawing and Painting is a foundation of her regular art practice. Helen works with a variety of mediums – Acrylics, Pastels, Collage, and also works digitally with Photoshop and Procreate. Paper engineering and paper sculpture are other passions where she seeks new ways to explore and express ideas that intrigue.
Helen has been teaching art for over 20 years. She teaches classes and workshops for Pastel, Drawing, Figure Drawing and Paper Engineering for many venues, including Neilson Park Creative Centre, Visual Arts Mississauga, CBBAG, and Haliburton School of Art and Design.
Helen’s teaching is based on a solid understanding of drawing and design principles and personal attention to each student. She is enthusiastic about helping students discover their potential, endorsing - and practicing - artistic exploration and striving for technical excellence. She works at creating an adventurous but safe environment in her classroom.
Helen is a member of Visual Arts Mississauga, Neilson Park Creative Centre and a long time board member of the Etobicoke Art Group.
