Programs - AP-21-3 - Drawing Your Self Portrait - Intermediate

Throughout the centuries, artists have turned to the mirror for inspiration and the convenience of being their own model in order to hone their artistic skills.

Using Drawing media – conté, graphite and pastels – students will work through a range of exercises to learn new ways of seeing, and drawing, and to practice the Art of the

Working from a mirror and from photo ‘selfies’, students will learn a variety of approaches to drawing Portraits. Using a variety of drawing materials such as Conté, Graphite, Pastels and Coloured pencils, they will explore both classical and contemporary techniques including different types of contour drawings – blind, meandering, cross-contour, etc - tonal, colour, reduction and more.

Discussion of the Elements and Principles of Design (Composition) is incorporated into each class, as well as weekly slideshows of Portrait work, critiques, and drawing demonstration by the Instructor.
