Overview

In this intermediate-level class, students will build on foundational painting skills while learning to use a palette knife to create dynamic, textured spring florals. Through guided demonstrations and hands-on practice, participants will explore color mixing, layering, and mark-making to capture movement, depth, and light. Emphasis will be placed on developing a confident, expressive style while interpreting seasonal blooms in a fresh way.

Materials List

Suggested materials:

-Acrylic or oil paints in a range of colors (including a few bright spring hues and white)
-Palette knives (any shape or size you have; a few options are helpful but not required)
-Painting surface (canvas, canvas board, or heavy mixed media paper)
-Brushes (for underpainting and details)
-Palette for mixing (traditional palette, paper plate, or disposable palette)
-Water container (for acrylic) or solvent/medium (for oil painters)
-Rags or paper towels
-Apron
-Reference images of spring florals for inspiration
-Sketchbook or pencil for planning compositions
