Programs - AS19-4 - East Coast Landscape Painting

Eastern Canada will be explored in this landscape class from the shores of Nova Scotia, Cape Breton to the coasts of Newfoundland Labrador. Students will venture onto the Light House Trail in Nova Scotia to depict small villages and historic sites to the Caleigh Trail in Cape Breton and follow the coast line of the Avalon Peninsula and the coast of Labrador, where some villages are perched high a top cliffs and harbours filled with fishing boats and gear. Students will learn to layer, develop landscapes and use skills to create interesting focal points by paring the scene down to its essentials, learning to keep the eyes of the audience on their painting as long as possible. Students will create two – three paintings depicting different East Coast landscpae scenes.

I have been producing art as long as I can remember; when I was a toddler I’d sit by my grandma’s side while she made beautiful oil paintings. Her name was Beatrice Sophia Armstrong Coleman. She would talk to me about the colours and textures in trees, water, flowers etc. I would, as I got older, draw as she painted. She encouraged me to become an artist.
