Overview

Do you feel uncertain when it comes to choosing and handling materials? Material Foundations is a supportive four-week course designed to build confidence with the tools of the studio through hands-on exploration and practice. Participants will experiment with drawing materials such as graphite, charcoal, and erasers, learn the fundamentals of paint handling and application, and gain experience working with wire and found materials to create sculptural forms. Each session combines demonstrations, skill-building exercises, and creative challenges that encourage experimentation and reduce the intimidation factor often associated with new materials. By the end of the course, participants will have a stronger understanding of how materials behave, greater confidence in their artistic decision-making, and a solid foundation for future creative projects.
Materials: all materials are provided at a value of $25 in the registration fee.
Please note, this is an in-studio program.
